Brianna Ghey cops reveal they ARE probing whether knife 'murder' of trans teen was a hate crime after bullying claims | The Sun

POLICE are investigating whether the brutal murder of a transgender teen was a "hate crime".

Brianna Ghey, 16, was stabbed to death in Linear Park, Culcheth, at around 3.13pm on Saturday.

Cheshire Police previously said there was no evidence to suggest the teen's gender identity played a part in her killing.

But the force issued a fresh statement today saying all lines are being explored, including if Brianna, who was a transgender girl, was attacked as part of a hate crime.

The development comes after police were granted a further 30 hours to quiz two people in custody.

The boy and girl, both aged 15, were arrested on suspicion of the schoolgirl's murder.

Other gatherings will take place in London, Glasgow, Leeds and Belfast to remember the teenager.

In a tribute issued after Brianna's death on behalf of her family, they said the teenager was a "much-loved daughter, granddaughter, and baby sister".

The statement continued: "She was a larger-than-life character who would leave a lasting impression on all that met her.
