A BRIT man has died after passing out while swimming off the coast of Costa Blanca.

The 74-year-old is said to have lost consciousness while he was in the water at La Ampolla Beach, near Moraira Castle.

Lifeguards raced to help him and brought him onto the sand and tried to revive him.

Paramedics were also scrambled to the beach and continued CPR.

But sadly they were unable to save him and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The tragedy on the friendly-family beach – Moraira’s main beach just over a 30-minute drive north of Benidorm – happened around 2pm on Friday.

It was not immediately clear on Monday if the man was on holiday or lives in the local area.

An investigation into his death is underway.

The results of the post-mortem, thought to have been carried out over the weekend, have not been made public.

It comes after a 40-year-old Brit died at another Costa Blanca beach in October last year while swimming along the Spanish coastline.
