Britons enjoy the bank holiday weekend with hottest day of the year

It really will be Easter SUN-day! Britons enjoy the bank holiday weekend with hottest day of the year on way tomorrow featuring 18C highs before while month of rain falls on Monday and Tuesday

  • Temperatures at to rise to 16°C or 17°C-highs in some areas of the UK tomorrow
  • ‘Pleasantly warm’ conditions will also be experienced today, Met Office says
  • But a month’s worth of rain is expected to fall from Easter Monday for two days

Easter Sunday could be Britain’s hottest day of the year so far, featuring temperatures warmer than Nice, Rome and Athens.

Sunny spells are to be felt across the country tomorrow, as temperatures rise to 16°C or 17°C-highs in some areas, just like Good Friday.

Plenty of sunshine will also be felt today, with the Met Office predicting that ‘pleasantly warm’ conditions will be felt in most parts of the UK.

The day will also come to a fine end for most, with clear spells to follow, while some eastern and far west regions will become cloudier.

But this is not expected to last for long, as Brits brace themselves for more dim weather on Easter Monday, with an entire month’s rain expected to fall in just two days.

A flood warning has also been issued today in Southampton, Hampshire, with the Environmental Agency asking those in Mansbridge and Woodmill on the River Itchen to take caution.

David Oliver, a Met Office Deputy Chief forecaster, said: ‘Similar conditions are likely for much of the UK on Easter Saturday, but during the second half of the Easter weekend the Atlantic will increasingly exert its influence.

‘A frontal system is expected to move in from the west and displace the high pressure lying across the UK.

‘This will spread rain across all areas during the latter part of Easter Sunday and through Easter Monday, although there is some uncertainty regarding its exact timing.

‘Once the rain clears blustery showers are likely to follow in its wake across many areas.’

While many areas are expected to enjoy sunny spells throughout the Easter weekend, the far east and far west will likely see some cloudier skies and even some light rain.

In the South and Midlands, the Met Office has warned of ‘very high’ pollen levels, with temperatures reaching 18°C in South East England.

This would be warmer than Nice, Rome and Athens.

In the west, the Met Office predicts breezy weather, with it being ‘rather warm inland’, as sunnier skies will see temperatures rise as high as 16°C or 17°C during the day, just like on Good Friday.

For Sunday, mostly dry weather with some sunshine is predicted, with rain arriving in the west later heralding the change to more unsettled conditions into next week.

But successive low pressure weather systems are then likely to move across the country from the breezy west, bringing rainfall totalling up to 70mm (2.75ins) in western areas of England and Wales on Easter Monday and Tuesday.

The heavy rain is due to be accompanied by gales of at least 60mph on southern and western coasts.

Met Office spokesman Alex Burkill said: ‘We are still looking at potentially having temperatures of 17-18C (63-64F) on Easter Sunday although it will turn increasingly cloudy.

‘The heavy rain is unlikely to arrive until sunset in the far west and will move east overnight, with the heaviest amounts falling in the early hours of the morning.

‘By 9am on Easter Monday, the rain is likely to be just across eastern England, before it clears out of the way.

‘It is due to be replaced by scattered, heavy showers through the rest of Monday.’

He said Tuesday could bring another 20-40mm of rain, accompanied by gales. He added: ‘We’re looking at gusts of 60mph and probably stronger along southern and western coasts.’

For the rest of the week, unsettled weather is likely to continue, Mr Burkill said, with a likelihood of further showers or longer spells of rain.

Good Friday kicked the Easter bank holiday weekend off to a good start, as Britons have been lucky enough to bask in fine and settled weather.

After intermittent showery spells on Thursday afternoon, the weekend started off with a glorious bout of sunshine. Britons made the most of it blissful conditions, flocking to beaches and parks across the UK.

Temperatures on Friday topped a warm 15C to 16C in parts of the UK. The sunny skies were accompanied by light winds.

By 2pm, areas in the west and north west such as Plymouth, Southampton and Wales would see highs of 14C, the forecaster predicted.

While in London and the surrounding areas, temperatures were expected to be a warm 16C – much higher than they were Friday morning, at 10C.

Birmingham and Manchester saw highs of 12C by just after lunch yesterday, as Hull and Norwich had similar temperatures.

And in the north, Glasgow and Aberdeen was cooler, with highs of 12C and 11C respectively.

Meanwhile, similar weather is expected for today, with highs of 15C in the capital, and the same in Manchester.
