Cancel your BBQ plans to stop further blazes, firefighters urge as they tackle weather-related outbreaks across London

Britons are being urged to cancel BBQ plans to stop more wildfire outbreaks. 

Firefighters continue to tackle multiple weather-related blazes across London as the scorching summer heatwave rages on. 

The London Fire Brigade said it is dealing with major fires in Enfield, Hayes and Thamesmead.

The Hayes fires carried smoke across West London so peopled were advised to close their windows

The fire at Rammey Marsh in Enfield covered over 20 hectares or four football pitches

The emergency fire service said it had dealt with more incidents today than it would in an average 24-hours. 

Ten fire engines and around 70 firefighters were called to deal with a grass fire in Rammey Marsh, Enfield as grassland the size of four football pitches – or 20 hectares – was on fire this afternoon.

In Cranford park in Hayes six fire engines and around 40 firefighters dealt with a grass fire which was producing smoke that could be seen miles away.

As the blaze engulfed five hectares of grass and shrubland  10 fire engines and 70 firefighters had to attend to the Hayes fire this afternoon.

The fire boat had to be called to handle a grass fire in Thamesmead as well as eight fire engines and 65 firefighters on Defence Close.

Appealing to the public for help, LFB urged people to cancel all planned barbecues.

Fire hit Cranford Park in Hayes where brave firefighters worked in hot temperatures to tackle the blaze

They asked people to also make sure they get rid of all rubbish, especially glass, from grassland and to dispose of cigarettes properly so as not to ignite more flames.

The emergency service tweeted: ‘London Fire Brigade is dealing with a number of weather related fires across the capital. We’re tackling significant incidents in Enfield, Hayes and Thamesmead. 

‘Between midnight and 1700 we’ve attended more incidents than we would in a normal 24 hour period. 

The London Fire Brigade is asking people to spare a thought for firefighters working in this heat and to help prevent further fires by not barbecuing, removing glass from grassland and disposing of cigs correctly as they controlled the massive blaze in Enfield today

There was also a large blaze at Hankley Common in Surrey today as several fire engines managed the flames

The London Fire Brigade have attended more fires today than in a normal 24 hours as between midnight and 5pm they attended more incidents than normal

‘Please help us prevent further fires by cancelling all planned BBQs, removing rubbish especially glass from grassland & disposing cigarettes correctly. 

‘Our firefighters & control officers are doing a fantastic job in challenging conditions.  Your co-operation will help us greatly.’ 

Temperatures across the south-east of England reached 29C on Sunday, according to the Met Office. 

The UK has experienced a heatwave with a record-breaking high of 40.3C recorded in Coningsby, Lincolnshire, on Tuesday.
