Prince Charles is "bewildered" and hurt by Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's attacks on the Royal Family, insiders claim.

The future King of England's inner circle say the 73-year-old has been wounded by the allegations made by his son and daughter-in-law, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

A friend of Prince Charles told the Sunday Times about the Prince's hurt and confusion.

The insider said: "For two years, there has been a steady stream of really challenging things said about a man who cannot [publicly] defend himself by a couple he obviously loves and misses.

"That is incredibly difficult on a personal level. He is completely bewildered by why his son, whom he loves deeply, feels this is the way to go about managing family relationships."

The latest round of interviews could serve to heighten the family tension.

In Meghan's Spotify podcast, Archetypes, the mum-of-two claimed she had been compared to South African hero Nelson Mandela and that Harry had 'lost' his father during the controversial Megxit.

And speaking to The Cut, Meghan also said that "by existing, we [Harry and Meghan] were upsetting the dynamic of the hierarchy", and again claimed that Harry had "lost" his father.

Those close to Prince Charles claim he has been particularly bruised by the latest round of Harry and Meghan's allegations, after spending family time with them, and their children, Archie, three, and one-year-old Lilibet during the Queen's Platinum Jubilee celebrations in June.
