  • Yellow weather warnings issued by Met Office for Wales and South West England
  • Disruption to journeys and flooding are likely today and tomorrow due to deluge
  • Up to 20mm of rain is likely to fall in a 2-hour period tomorrow in parts of the UK

The UK is set to experience more miserable weather in the coming days as the Met Office has issued weather warnings of heavy rain and gusty winds.

The heavy rain will continue today, spreading north-eastwards towards Scotland by the afternoon.

Another yellow warning of heavy rain and strong gusty winds has been issued for tomorrow from 10am to 7pm for Wales and the South West of England.

Around 10-15mm of rain is likely to fall in a 2 hour period, with around 20mm possible for some areas.

Wind gusts could reach 50mph inland and perhaps up to 70mph on exposed coasts in Cornwall, Pembrokeshire, Gwynedd and Anglesey.

A wind warning has also been issued for parts of Northern Ireland and Scotland.

The strong wind could cause delays to all journeys by rail, road and air and flooding to homes and businesses in affected areas, the Met Office said.

The rest of the UK should see a period of sunshine and showers, with the most frequent showers in western areas.

There is also a chance of some thunder being possible with this in the far southwest, as well as the possibility of some hail in places.

Further flood warnings have been issued across the country while more than 80 areas are on flood alert.

Tomorrow is expected to be another wet and windy day for most across the UK while Friday will be drier and sunny with a few showers in the north and west.

There are currently more than 90 flood warnings and alerts active in the UK with heavy rain and strong gusts set to batter the UK

Over the weekend the poor weather will return as Saturday will become cloudy and wet across much of the west, but there will be sunny spells in the east.

Sunday will face further unsettled conditions with another deluge of rain across the UK, but sunny spells will follow.

The Met Office said the bad weather is likely to continue next week, especially in the northwest where it may be wet and windy. In the south and east, however, there is a chance of drier weather and temperatures perhaps returning closer to normal for the time of the year.

Parts of Scotland could also see snowfall this week, according to wxcharts, who predict heavy snow tomorrow.

Up to 2cm per hour could fall over a large part of eastern Scotland late tonight.
