The Denver metro area is under an air quality alert, afternoon and evening scattered storms on Saturday will bring a limited threat of flash flooding to wildfire scar areas.

In Denver there’s a 10% chance of afternoon showers and thunderstorms, according to the National Weather Service. It will be mostly sunny in the city with a high temperature near 90 degrees.

The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment has issued an Ozone Action Day Alert for the metro area, through 4 p.m. Saturday, including Douglas, Jefferson, Denver, western Arapahoe, western Adams, Broomfield, Boulder, Larimer, and Weld counties.

Hot and sunny weather is expected to allow ozone concentrations to reach the Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups category, the CDPHE said. People with respiratory concerns should limit outdoor activities. The use of gasoline and diesel motor vehicles and equipment is discouraged and should be limited if possible.

On Sunday in Denver there’s a 30% chance of afternoon showers and thunderstorms. It will be partly sunny and the high temperature should hit about 91 degrees, according to the weather service.

Scattered late-day showers and thunderstorms will persist over the mountains on Sunday and Monday, the weather service said, while the Eastern Plains will be mostly dry.

On Monday in Denver skies will be sunny with just a 10% chance for afternoon showers and thunderstorms. The high temperature is expected to climb to around 96 degrees.
