Partly sunny skies will likely make way for showers and thunderstorms Thursday in Denver, according to the National Weather Service.

The forecast calls for a high of 73 degrees and a low of 51, with a thunderstorm expected in the afternoon and possibly the evening. Wind gusts could get as high as 22 mph during the day and 28 mph at night.

The heavy rainfall in the afternoon and evening could produce minor flooding as rains of more than 2 inches are possible, according to the National Weather Service in Boulder.

A hazardous weather outlook for northeast and north central Colorado warned of possible showers and storms in the early afternoon over higher terrain before moving onto the plains in the later afternoon. Storms and showers are forecast to continue through much of the night, with an elevated risk of flash flooding in the Cameron Peak burn area and minor flooding in Denver and the rest of the Interstate 25 corridor and plains.

The rainy conditions are expected to continue through Friday, though they will likely gradually decrease throughout the day, before dry and warm conditions likely return on Saturday.
