Drenched campers show grim scenes from rain soaked Bluedot festival as organisers announce no more people can come in

Bluedot festival turned away ticket holders on the final day of the science, music and art event as drenched campers revealed the grim rain soaked grounds.
Festival organisers this morning announced that today’s day ticket holders would not be able to attend the event after an ‘unprecedented amount of rainfall’ left the pick-up, drop-off and entrance points ‘impassable’.
Weekend ticket holders who were already at Jodrell Bank in Cheshire were still permitted to take part in today’s festivities, though several took to Twitter revealing they left early due to the mud and standing water.
Crews had worked throughout the weekend and overnight, but a statement on Bluedot’s website revealed that despite their efforts it had ‘reached the point where it is not possible to accommodate further audience vehicles on site’.
Organisers said those impacted by today’s cancellations will receive a refund for their tickets, adding they were ‘very sad’ they could not accommodate everyone who had planned to share in the festival’s ‘extraordinary moments of wonder, exploration and celebration’.

Bluedot festival looked more like a mud pit this year after rainfall flooded the campground.
Festival workers tried to combat the impacts of the weather by laying 1.5km of additional track mat and track way, 130 tonnes of sustainably sourced wood chip and bringing multiple trucks on site to pump out standing water – but organisers today said their efforts did not solve the problem.
‘We’ve had an unprecedented amount of rainfall over the past seven days that has seen the water level reach saturation point during the night, rendering our day ticket holder car park, pick-up and drop-off point and entrances impassable due to standing water,’ a spokesperson wrote.
‘Despite our continued work throughout the weekend it has reached the point where it is not possible to accommodate further audience vehicles on site.’
Organisers said they had done ‘everything within our power’ to accommodate today’s guests and were ‘proud to be welcoming you today to something we hold very dear to our hearts’.

‘We are very sad we can not share this with people who were due to arrive today. Thank you for your understanding,’ the spokesperson said, noting that information about refunds would be issued in the next 48 hours.
Although the festival continued today for campers already on site, several claimed they had been beat by the muddy conditions.
‘Left bluedot this morning,’ Twitter user @niknots10 penned. ‘Not enjoyable, couldn’t do another night.’
User @boboshady echoed: ‘The mud beat us – crawling baby, two nearly teens and three days of incessant rain do not mix. Cya next year, bluedot.’

Others applauded the work of Bluedot staff, praising them for their hard work despite the poor weather.
‘Bluedot was incredibly wet, the teams did an amazing job,’ wrote @jjturner. ‘So much mud, just everywhere.’
‘Revellers at Bluedot emphasised that there’s no such thing as bad conditions, just inappropriate clothing,’ @lennylaw joked.
‘Thank you @bluedotfestival. We love you,’ added @fairycakepixie. ‘My brain is full, my heart is happy. The rain and the mud can’t take away how amazing Bluedot is.’
