A driver has been blasted for letting a young girl sit in the front passenger seat of a car on motorway without wearing a seatbelt.

Video footage of a white Hyundai i20 driving along the motorway was shared online, as the young girl moves about.

It was filmed by a passenger in another car, which pulled up next to the Hyundai as it was driving along the high-speed road. 

In the TikTok clip, the girl can be seen holding onto the dashboard with one hand as she appears to stand in the footwell, waving her head. 

The woman continues to drive, looking over at the girl at least once. 

During the clip, the young girl continues to move about, putting her hand in her mouth at one point.

Viewers have called the footage ‘shocking’ and ‘unbelievable’, and urged the video poster to report the incident to the police.

They were worried that if the car crashed, the young girl would go ‘flying through the window’.

Another said: ‘Wow so irresponsible. Hopefully she sees this and changes her ways… before child ends up on bonnet.’

One commenter said: ‘I see this so often these parents really don’t see the danger.’

However others suggested that the child could have undone their own belt while the car was moving.

‘Maybe parent is waiting to stop the car safely to belt the child in?,’ another commenter added. 

In the UK, children aged between three and 12, or up to 135cm tall must sit in a car seat in either the front or back of the car.

When they are more than 135cm tall, or older than 12, the child must wear a seatbelt.

Drivers can be hit with a fine of up to £500 if a child under 14 is not in the correct car seat or wearing a seat belt while they are driving.
