Evesham gas explosion horror as pictures show entire blown up house torn apart

A horror gas explosion that blew up a house has left four people injured and a street emptied of residents.

Shocking snaps show a gutted home on Hemmingway in Evesham, Worcestershire without a roof or front-facing wall, exposing four rooms.

A man was rushed from the destroyed property to Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham soon after a 999 call at 5pm on Tuesday, December 27.

Another two adults were taken in the opposite direction, across to Hereford County Hospital, according to West Mercia Police.

Paramedics treated the fourth person injured in the blast, according to the force.

The street of houses was emptied through fear of further damage with 10 neighbouring properties evacuated before a police cordon was formed and remained in place overnight into Wednesday.

People have been asked to stay away from the area and a road closure is in effect at the scene.

Neighbour Sandra Cox told BBC News how she heard an "almighty bang" as her own home shook ahead of "chaotic" scenes that followed.

The former nurse said: "We were just sitting in the lounge, playing with the children and having a good time, when all of a sudden… there was an almighty bang.

"[It] frightened the life out of all of us. It shook the house, it was horrible.

"I wondered if anyone was seriously injured. But I am more concerned about the people than I am about their houses, because a house can be replaced but a person can't."
