Full list of Wilko shops closing revealed

Wilko is shutting down 38 shops today as it moves to close all 400: Full list revealed

  • Everything you need to know about the store closures over the coming weeks

All of Wilko’s 400-plus stores are set to close by October, which could see around 12,500 staff members lose their jobs.

Having failed to secure a takeover that would save the business, the high street retailer fell into administration on August 10.

Administrators at PwC had agreed a £13 deal to sell 51 Wilko stores to B&M and Poundland snapped around 71 shops.

Yet a buyer couldn’t be found for the entire business and it has since announced that all shops will close in the next few weeks.

But which stores have closed already? And which Wilko stores are preparing to pull down the shutters?

Read on to find out which Wilko stores are shutting down and when, including a full list of store closures.

Here is everything you need to know about the Wilko store closures in the coming weeks, including a full list of shops set to be axed

Which Wilko stores are closing?

Within the past two weeks, Wilko has pulled the shutters on 90 locations across the UK. The high-street retailer is closing a total of 86 shops this week, which will result in over 1000 redundancies.

The store’s two big warehouses in  Workshop, Nottinghamshire and Newport, Wales, will close on Friday September 15 2023, with the final support centre workers leaving in October 2023.

Administrators are still in talks over deals to sell store properties, but are shutting down sites after failing to find a suitor who would take them on as Wilko shops and retain their staff.

Even with successful takeover bids by B&M and Poundland, the GMB Union said that the bids were only interested in the property and any deals would not include the workers.

Following the collapse of the rescue deal, the union said that any hopes of saving thousands of jobs had collapsed.

PwC had already agreed a roughly £13 million deal to sell up to 51 Wilko stores to rival B&M.

In a statement, Zelf Hussain, joint administrator at PwC said: ‘Despite extensive efforts, it has become clear that no significant part of the Wilko operations can be rescued as a going concern.’
