Heartbroken girlfriend of beloved scaffolder, 37, killed in freak trampoline accident announces her pregnancy just days after his death

  • Rob Harcourt was left paralysed after the accident at a friend’s house last month
  • Mr Harcourt, of Stockton-on-Tees, then suffered a cardiac arrest and later died
  • His girlfriend Jade Higgins, 30, is 15 weeks pregnant with their fifth child

A beloved father who died after a freak trampoline accident was due to have his fifth child with his girlfriend who has revealed she is 15 weeks pregnant.

Rob Harcourt, of Stockton-on-Tees, was left paralysed and in need of constant care after the accident at a friend’s house last month.

Mr Harcourt, who was father to Leona, 14, Evie, 12, Charlie, nine, and Isabella, three, had attempted a backflip but misjudged it and landed on his neck, which caused a catastrophic injury.

The 37-year-old was treated in the Intensive Care Unit at the James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough, where he had round-the-clock care, unable to breathe on his own.

The scaffolder underwent a second operation there to stabilise his neck, but the damage to it was irreparable, with medics fearing he could be brain damaged.

Doctors then delivered the awful news that he would never recover last week.

Mr Harcourt then suffered a cardiac arrest, which led to ‘massive’ brain damage, and he later died at a hospice with his family by his side.

Now, his ‘heartbroken’ family have revealed that Mr Harcourt’s girlfriend Jade Higgins, 30, is currently 15 weeks pregnant with their fifth child, releasing an ultrasound image of the baby alongside the announcement.

His mother Jackie Graves, who described the couple as ‘soulmates,’ said her son’s legacy will live on.

Ms Graves said: ‘My boy was my only child. This baby is my little ray of hope. They [Mr Harcourt and Ms Higgins] were soulmates.’

Confirming the tragic news on Tuesday, she said: ‘My clever, funny, kind and beautiful son Rob has passed away in mine and Jade’s arms. Jimmy was with us too, holding his hand.

‘Heartbroken doesn’t touch how we are feeling right now.

‘Rob’s last words were “Love you Mam” as he went to theatre for the first operation to his neck. He couldn’t speak after that.’

Tributes have poured in across social media with hundreds of Mr Harcourt’s friends and family describing their devastation.

A GoFundMe page, which had been set up following the accident, has so far received almost £10,000 in donations from hundreds of people.

Amanda Jones, from Llangwyryfon, near Aberystwyth in Wales, whose husband Alan was a friend of Rob’s, said he was a ‘popular guy’ and a ‘great friend’.
