Two people at a gay nightclub where a shooter murdered five people and injured 18 squared up to the crazed killer, it has been revealed.

The horrific incident took place just before 12am yesterday evening (November 19).

A bartender who worked at Club Q in Colorado Springs said: "When I went inside I saw that two people had seemingly detained someone on the ground and were kicking them and yelling at them."

Their gallant acts of bravery have been widely praised.

A statement from Q Club's website said: "We thank the quick reactions of heroic customers that subdued the gunman and ended this hate attack."

Amazingly, it seems the two party goers fought the sicko hand-to-hand.

"Two heroic people confronted the suspect and fought with them, we owe them a great debt of thanks," the club said.

The club said that police arrived on the scene at 12am, with the suspect being detained two minutes later.

The attack has left 18 people injured with five others confirmed to have died, but there are fears the death toll could rise.

Police say 22-year-old Anderson Lee Aldrichhas has been taken into custody and is currently being held in a local hospital where he is receiving treatment for injuries.

A spokesperson did not reveal the severity of any of the injuries sustained by survivors and said a motive had not yet been established.

Michael Anderson, 25-year-old barman who was working that evening, shared his harrowing story with the Mirror.

"I saw a person with a gun, and I immediately ducked behind the bar and glass was flying around me," he said.

Michael managed to escape to the patio area of the club where he hid out with two other clubbers.

As the trio hid, Michael saw another group flee through a door they had managed to open.

"I was afraid I was going to die. I was preparing to get shot, when the shots then stopped," he said.

He corroborated the reports of two people who took on the maniac to prevent more bloodshed.

He said: "When I went inside I saw that two people had seemingly detained someone on the ground and were kicking them and yelling at them.

"I ran behind the bar and grabbed my things and ran to my car. The cops arrived in mass numbers by this time.

"I told them I believed the shooter was down on the dance floor and the shots had stopped."

In 2016, another gay club, Pulse, was the scene of a horrific shooting, with 49 people slain in what was then the worst mass shooting in US history.
