Missing neurosurgeon is found dead in a Scottish loch after vanishing from his home last week

  • Michael Fitzpatrick, 58, went missing from Cumbernauld on November 13
  • The surgeon’s body was found yesterday at Banton Loch in Kilsyth, Scotland
  • The death is not being treated as suspicious and his family have been informed 

A missing neurosurgeon has been found dead in a loch in Scotland after vanishing from his home last week. 

Michael Fitzpatrick, 58, went missing from Cumbernauld a week ago at around 5pm on November 13. 

His body was discovered in Banton Loch in Kilsyth at around 3.35pm yesterday. 

The death is not being treated as suspicious and his family have been informed. 

Mr Fitzpatrick is believed to have worked as a consultant neurosurgeon in Edinburgh.

Police appealed for information after he didn’t contact his family or friends. 

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: ‘The body of a man was found in Banton Loch, Kilsyth, around 3.35pm on Saturday, November 19.

‘The body has been identified as 58-year-old Michael Fitzpatrick, who had been reported missing from Cumbernauld. His family have been informed.

‘The death is not believed to be suspicious. A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.’
