Heartbreaking photo shows Queen’s corgis waiting to see her one final time

Two of the Queen's corgis are awaiting the arrival of the Queen's coffin at Windsor Castle to say a final goodbye.

Muick and Sandy were seen awaiting their owner's arrival at the castle in one of the most heartbreaking moments of the funeral so far.

Images of the dogs show them on leads as they await Her Majesty's final return.

The appearance of the adorable pooches has been melting peoples' hearts online.

Corgis have become a symbol closely linked to the Queen, who owned around 50 or 60 through her life.

As well as Muick and Sandy the Queen also had a third dog, a dorgi, which is a corgi and dachshund cross, called Candy.

Taking to Twitter, people have poured out their grief on behalf of the adorable dogs.

@Suziwho1 said: "Animals feel grief as well as humans….they are wondering where the Queen is….she has not greeted them for 11 days….they miss her….xxxx"

Meanwhile, @mbjamby posted: "I really do feel bad for the fur babies, unlike humans they won't fully understand what's happened to their Mamma."

Now, following her death, the dogs are in need of a new home.

While it wasn't immediately clear in the days after the Queen's passing where the dogs would end up, it has since emerged they are likely to go into the hands of Prince Andrew and his ex-wife, Sarah Ferguson.

Prince William had been out visiting mourners in the queue to see Her Majesty's Lying-In-State when he was asked by a well-wisher what was going to happen to the corgis next.

In footage taken by Sky News, William was picked up saying: "I saw them the other day, that got me quite sad.

"They are going to be looked after fine.

"They are two very friendly corgis, so they've got a good home".

No doubt to the relief of millions around the world, the Prince of Wales added: "They'll be looked after very well. Spoiled rotten, I'm sure."
