A good night’s sleep could make it easier to stick to exercise and diet goals, according to a study.
Researchers from the University of Pittsburgh found people who reported regular, uninterrupted sleep were better at following exercise and diet plans while trying to lose weight.
The American team set up a 12-month weight loss programme for 125 adults who were classed as either overweight or obese.
Sleep habits were measured at the start, six months in and at 12 months.
Those who recorded higher sleep scores were found to stick more closely to the programme’s exercise and diet plans.

The findings were presented at the American Heart Association’s Epidemiology, Prevention, Lifestyle and Cardiometabolic Health Scientific Sessions in Boston, Massachusetts.
