I run a pricey corner shop – my drinks cost three times more than at Asda but they still fly off the shelves | The Sun

A CORNER shop is flogging a popular energy drink for three times the price it is being sold in Asda stores.

Vape shop Jewel of Vape, based in Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter, is selling the fashionable drink Prime Hydration for a pricey £6.50 a go.

The drink, which is endorsed by YouTubers KSI and Logan Paul, is currently highly desired, especially among teenagers.

It is currently being exclusively sold in Asda for just £2.

People looking to make a quick profit have been queuing outside the supermarket before opening to grab as many bottles as they can and then sell them online for massively inflated prices.

Asda has since introduced a strict three bottle limit for customers.

KSI says Asda workers are selling Prime drink on black market

Prime, which is available in a range of flavours, has been known to sell for as much as £20-£30 each.

Sellers trying to cash in on the current craze are listing the drink for thousands of pounds on sites such as eBay.

Sid, the owner of the vape shop on Warstone Lane, said his cash and carry wholesaler may “increase” the cost of buying cases of Prime.

He told BirminghamLive: "We don't want to, but if that happens, we will have to sell bottles for £8 instead of £6.50 – otherwise it wouldn't be worth it for us.”

Sid, who admitted he’s never tried the sports drink, added: "We put 25 per cent on top of whatever drinks we sell here.

"We're selling it cheaper than elsewhere because I'd rather be reasonable and not be greedy. It's going mad.

"I've been in this game 20 years and the reputation of our shop is important. We don't want to rip people off. We're happy with 25 per cent."

Speaking about the huge demand for Prime, Sid said: "I can't believe it's so big. I didn't believe it initially. I would of doubled up if I'd known, to be honest.

"We bought two cases of 24 and they sold out in a few days. One guy came in and bought quite a few of them.

"Apparently, he's been selling them online for £20, or something like that."
