Incredible new pictures show Earth from space as it’s never been seen before

A tech company has claimed to be the first to send a 360-degree action camera into space, capturing breathtaking images of Earth like never before.

Chinese firm Insta360 launched a satellite 500km into space, equipped with cameras that are now orbiting our planet and snapping stunning 360 views of the stars, the Milky Way, and Earth. Insta360 boasts of achieving "the first fully exposed camera in space", a feat which required extensive preparation to make their X2 camera ready for the harsh environment of space.

The team had to overcome three major challenges – extreme heat and cold, radiation, and the intense shock and vibration of a rocket launch. The project kicked off in July 2021, and it took a year to modify the action cameras, including six months of research and development.

Although the solar-powered satellite was initially set to launch in 2022, it was delayed due to COVID-19. A year later, the Insta360 X2 finally took flight. Working alongside partners Media Storm and SAR satellite company Spacety, Insta360 managed to accomplish its mission.

The company said: "The project runs on hard work, but a fair bit of luck, too. Space can be unpredictable, and there is no backup hardware or software if the camera runs into any issues.

"Luckily, both cameras and their sensors are still fully functioning and offer an incredible look at outer space. This is the first time ever a 360 action camera has reached space, breaking new ground for Insta360."

In other space news, the Daily Star recently reported that a former US intelligence officer claimed humans have captured at least 10 aliens. US Air Force veteran David Grusch, a former member of the National Geospatial Intelligence Agency and National Reconnaissance Office, claims ET "pilots" were seized after a number of UFO crashes on Earth running into "double digits".

Though there had been some "interactions" with humans, most aliens were a "variety" of biological "entities" of which boffins had no understanding of the "physiology at all".
