England are gearing up towards the final of the Euro 2022 tournament after their 4-0 semi-final thrashing of Sweden last night, and will be making their preparations in their vast Teddington hotel base.

The Lionesses, who have never won the competition, will face either France or Germany in Sunday’s Wembley decider following goals from Beth Mead, Lucy Bronze, Alessia Russo and Fran Kirby.

The England stars have been staying at the The Lensbury Resort during the tournament, as the London-based hotel is experienced in hosting elite sports teams – having previously welcomed rugby teams, football coaches and tennis stars – with the elite facilities to match.

While the £118-a-night four star hotel may not boast the same luxuries as the accommodation the England men’s team has become accustomed to over the years, the 25-acre site still features a state-of-the-art gym, two heated indoor pools, a sauna, work-out studios, 22 tennis courts and two full-sized sports pitches in its grounds.

The resort – that lies next to the River Thames – has been in the perfect location for England’s campaign, as they faced Spain and Norway in Brighton and Northern Ireland in Southampton.

While England’s match against Sweden was further afield at Sheffield United’s Bramall Lane stadium, they will play their final match of the tournament at London’s Wembley – less than 10 miles away from the hotel.

The Lionesses will have four days to train in south-west London before Sunday’s sold-out game, and to hone their tactics to complete what would be a historic European final victory.

The resort – that lies next to the River Thames – has been in the perfect location for England’s campaign, as they faced Spain and Norway in Brighton and Northern Ireland in Southampton .

The Lensbury has 155 rooms in a variety of styles available to their guests. Its options range from the Dutch Suites to the Deluxe Bedrooms.

The Lionesses who have opted for the Dutch Suite have been staying in the hotel’s largest guest rooms – featuring rich oak panelling, a large separate lounge area and a large double shower room with a massage jet in each room.

Those who have chose the ‘Classic Double rooms’ instead have enjoyed either king, queen or a double bed, ensuite bathrooms and large flat-screen TVs.

These rooms are also located in the main hotel and annex building offering easy access to the 25 acres of gardens, grounds and excellent leisure facilities.

Following a £1.2million investment in 2019, the team have had access to a range of digitally connected facilities including TechnoGym cardio machines, free weight equipment and resistance apparatus in their fitness suite.

The England team can also stream Netflix, watch YouTube or listen to the latest playlists on all of the cardio machines – making that morning recovery a little bit more exciting.

The stunning resort – which is overlooking Teddington Lock on the River Thames – also contains two heated indoor pools, plus a thermal suite for the players to relax in after games.

Wiegman’s team have also had access two UEFA standard pitches for training in between their fixtures for practicing their tactics and set pieces.

The Lensbury resort also has a host of activities available to the players if Wiegman’s side are looking for something to do on their rest days (other than rest) ahead of the big final.

The resort boasts a variety of surfaces to play tennis including 4 clay courts, 3 grass courts, 4 artificial grass courts, 8 floodlit macadam courts and 3 floodlit mini courts.

They also have dedicated squash building houses two full-sized squash courts and accompanying changing facilities. However, it seems unlikely the team will be taking part in these activities.

Nevertheless, they may look to make the most of the hotel’s unique River Thames location by strolling down to the water to watch the water sports on show.

The Lioness could even rent some of the Kruger motor boats on offer for a relaxing day out.

However, should they want to keep their mind on the football at all times, they can use one of Lensbury’s event rooms for team meetings, tactical sessions and management meetings.

Wiegman previously expressed her delight at staying at the Lensbury resort. She said: ‘We are looking forward to our stay at The Lensbury.

‘We have received a warm welcome from the staff already and have been impressed by the facilities and accommodation.

‘It is important that our tournament base is a home from home for the squad and support team, and I have no doubt we will find that here. Confirming our base is another step towards what we all hope will be a memorable summer.’

Following a shaky start for the Lionesses in which Sweden’s Stina Blackstenius hit the bar, Beth Mead, already leading the race for the Golden Boot, put Sarina Wiegman’s side ahead with a 34th-minute strike that took her to six goals for the tournament.

Mead then turned provider in the opening moments of the second half, delivering a corner that was headed in by Lucy Bronze, before substitute Alessia Russo notched her fourth goal of these finals with a delightful back-heeled effort in the 68th minute.

Fran Kirby added the fourth with a chip eight minutes later and it could have been even more for England, with Lauren Hemp having rattled the woodwork at 2-0, as they comprehensively avoided more semi-final disappointment after exiting at this stage at their last three major tournaments.

They can now look forward to a showdown on Sunday with either Germany or France at a sold-out Wembley, where victory will secure them the first major trophy in their history.

It will be a third appearance in the competition’s final after the runners-up finishes of 13 years ago – when they suffered a 6-2 loss to Germany – and at the inaugural Euros in 1984, which saw them beaten on penalties by Sweden.

Triumphing on Sunday would also mean back-to-back Euros successes for boss Wiegman, who, after overseeing her native Netherlands winning the 2017 edition on home soil and then reaching the 2019 Word Cup final, has had an England tenure that remains unbeaten after 19 matches, with 17 wins, 104 goals scored and only four conceded.
