Italian holiday hotspot Sorrento has banned bikinis in an effort to crackdown on 'indecency', with mayor Massimo Coppola saying that tourists are causing locals in the southwestern coastal town to feel 'discomfort and unease'
The ban on bikinis means that tourists who break the rules by wearing skimpy bathing suits will face a fine of around £425. The ban applies not just to those wearing bikinis but those opting to go around town topless as well.
Mayor Coppola announced the crackdown on clothing, saying that anyone walking around in bikinis or topless were "seen by the majority of people as contrary to decorum and to the decency that characterises civilised cohabitation."

He added: "The continuation of this situation, as well as causing discomfort and unease in the resident population and among visitors, could lead to a negative judgment on the quality of life in our town, with consequences for its image and for tourism."
The rules don't apply if you're sitting by the pool or chilling out at a beach club. However, under these new rules people need to cover up if they venture out to walk around shops or eat at a restaurant.
Police will patrol through the streets of the town to enforce the ban.
Sorrento is not the only holiday destination that has imposed rules on swimwear.

The Ligurian resort of Rapallo has also recently put a ban on 'skimpy' outfits away from the beach.
Similarly, in spots like Barcelona and Majorca, people can only wear bikinis while on the beach. Those who don't follow the rules will face fines up to £260 in Barcelona, and up to £500 in Majorca.
Popular party resorts in Majorca warned that tourists won't be allowed in if they are wearing football shirts, glow-in-the-dark hats or gold chains, as part of a crackdown against "drunken tourism."
A group of 11 restaurants – all associated with the Palma Beach brand – have come together to impose a new dress code which bans tank tops without straps, swimming trunks, swimsuits as well as any accessories purchased from street vendors.
Anyone who doesn't follow the dress code will be refused access to the resort and restaurants.
