‘So many dead. Never seen anything like it’: Medics and care workers hits back at Matt Hancock by revealing THEIR horror WhatsApps from the 2020 Covid frontline

Medics and care workers are hitting back at Matt Hancock by revealing their horror WhatsApp messages from the 2020 Covid frontline. 

An acute medicine doctor, known online as Seahorse, took to Twitter to ‘leak’ her own collection of WhatsApp messages, showing the horrific reality of the pandemic for key workers. 

Describing the intense strain on the NHS during the pandemic, she wrote of how intensive therapy and high dependency units were full and that there were no free beds for patients in need.

As a result of the sheer volume of patients, she told a friend that ‘everyone is waiting 14’ hours in the hospital’s emergency department, calling it ‘a full blown disaster’. 

One of the text messages read: ‘This is terrible. Looking at all the patients I saw over weekend. So many dead. Never seen anything like it’.

The WhatsApp messages were released to highlight the horrific work medics faced during the pandemic 

A heartbreaking text from the end of a shift said: ‘That was just an awful few hours. I am broken’.

In a different exchange, she added: ‘I can’t believe that man died. Everyone has died’. 

‘It’s all gone mad.’ 

The medic said that during ‘tough’ shifts, they could only afford to take a 10-minute breaks and did not even ‘have time’ for it.

Speaking of hospital patients, she wrote: ‘Man just ranted at me about how covid is a hoax / Man in bed next to him literally dying of covid!!’

While another text said: ‘Awful stories here tonight. Elderly couple both here with covid found on the floor after 2 days. So much covid’ 

Highlighting the strain key workers faced during the pandemic and the horrific 

Cherry Blossom, an intensive care nurse, also chose to share her WhatsApp messages in solidarity with those who worked tirelessly to care for those suffering from Covid.

While doctors worked on the frontline, CCTV images of the former Health Secretary and his now-girlfriend in an intimate embrace during the pandemic were published in June 2021

She wrote: ‘My intensive care unit is nearly half way full, I’m shocked my patients survived the day’.

Cherry explained how newly qualified ward and scrub nurses that had ‘been ‘nowhere near anything like this’ were ‘scared’ despite senior’s efforts to teach them as much as they could during a short time frame. 

She added: ‘At some point we are going to have 2 untrained staff looking after sick patients and 1 ICU nurse helping both of them so we have enough staff

‘It’s a s**t situation and they want to come and help, we need them but it’s going to be hell’. 

An upsetting message concluded: ‘The horrid thing is when this is all over we will go back to being nothing and no one’.  

Paul Quinn, from Newcastle, shared a series of text messages with his mother who worked in a care home throughout the pandemic. 

Messages from his mother wrote: ‘Bloody hell another 3 residents died,

‘Omg Paul it is a wipeout in here’.

His mother later texted her son asking how his father was, mentioning that she had caught covid and was suffering from pneumonia. 

Paul revealed that the same day the last message was sent, was the day his mother was put on a ventilator. She later passed on December 18.

These tweets follow a collection of leaked WhatsApp messages sent over two days showing Matt Hancock and his team’s changing stance on what to tell the public, from saying that no Covid rules were broken to apologising for breaking guidance and then resigning.

CCTV images of the former Health Secretary and his now-girlfriend in an intimate embrace were published in June 2021, prompting a panicked response.

As the news of his affair broke, Mr Hancock asked the Department of Health’s media advisor Damon Poole ‘how bad’ the pictures were, to which Mr Poole said: ‘It’s a snog and heavy petting.’

The then Health Secretary replied: ‘How the f*** did anyone photograph that?’

Mr Hancock sent a series of messages to his top team and girlfriend in an effort to save his career – in which his media advisor described the photos as ‘a snog and heavy petting’

The messages, which were revealed last night by The Telegraph, showed Mr Hancock’s affair started on May 4, and the CCTV images were from two days later.

At the time, indoor gatherings of two or more people were banned and guidance instructed people to remain at least one metre apart from one another. 

Discussions continued throughout the day as to the line they would take on the affair.

In one WhatsApp message, Mr Hancock tells his media advisor: ‘I could apologise for the whole thing – I have after all cheated on my wife.’

In a later exchange, he says: ‘I don’t think I can acknowledge that I broke the rules. I think I just went against the clinical advice not the rules.’

At one point he responded: ‘WE DIDN’T BREAK THE F***ING LAW OK’.

This is the latest revelation from the set of 100,000 texts and WhatsApp messages leaked to the Daily Telegraph by former journalist Isabel Oakeshott who was the ghostwriter of Mr Hancock’s book.

A spokesman for Mr Hancock said: ‘There’s nothing new in these messages, and absolutely no public interest in publishing them given the independent inquiry has them all. It’s highly intrusive, completely inappropriate and has all been discussed endlessly before.’
