Lilt fans are revealing their heartbreak through hilarious memes after it was announced the soft drink was being replaced.
Fans took to Twitter to say farewell to the soft drink, with one user posting: ‘Farewell sweet Lilt’ alongside a photo of a Lilt bottle edited next to Paddington Bear.
Another user said: ‘RIP Lilt. I’ll remember all those times we shared together when I was mixing you with Glenn’s vodka at the back of the 501 bus to Watford.’
It comes after Lilt’s owner Coca-Cola Europacific Partners (CCEP) said the drink was being pulled from UK shelves and replaced by a new type of fanta.
Another meme included a can of Lilt edited with a picture of BBC soap EastEnders’s Phil Mitchell with the caption ‘Me having my last Lilt’.
One user put the soap opera’s Ian Beale to use by posting a photo of the character crying, with the caption ‘Takeaways in Britain now that Lilt is being discontinued’.
Coca-Cola confirmed the change and said it will now be known as Fanta Pineapple and Grapefruit with a new logo and packaging.
The tangy drink was launched in 1975 with the strapline ‘The Totally Tropical Taste’ and was only sold in the UK, Ireland, Gibraltar and the Seychelles.

Lilt became a feature of popular culture with its Lilt Man parody adverts in the late 1980s and a decade later it was promoted by two Jamaican women known as the Lilt Ladies.
Coca-Cola reduced the number of calories, sugar and artificial sweeteners in the drink between 2008 and 2014 as part of efforts to make healthier products in response to the Government’s Public Health Responsibility Deal.
The company said: ‘Keen Lilt fans may have spotted a gradual transition as the drink has made its way into the Fanta family over the past few months, with changes to its packaging and logo.’
Coca-Cola’s Great Britain vice-president of commerical development Martin Attock added: ‘Our main priority with this announcement is to reassure Lilt’s loyal fanbase that absolutely nothing has changed when it comes to the iconic taste of the drink they know and love.
‘It’s still bursting with tangy tropical flavours, it’s just got itself a new name.’
The new drink will be available from February 14.
