THE M4 has been closed in both directions following a serious crash.

The busy motorway has been shut off by emergency services nearMargam, Port Talbot, with long delays building in the area following a crash in the early hours of the morning.

A spokesman for South Wales Police said the M4 is expected to be closed "for some time" and advised drivers to avoid the area.

A statement added: "We are investigating a road traffic collision that occurred on the M4 at junction 38 Margam, at approximately 2.15am this morning.

"The M4 at junction 38 is currently closed in both directions and is expected to remain closed for a number of hours.

An earlier statement added: "The road is closed westbound at J38 Margam, traffic to exit at the off slip and re-join at J38 on slip.
