A Victorian man charged with manslaughter over the death of a suspected thief has been released on bail.

Jake Mouat, 31, from Corio in Geelong’s north, is accused of killing 48-year-old Norlane man Sheldon Broderick during an altercation outside a fish and chip shop on June 20.

Broderick died in hospital after he was allegedly confronted by Mouat while breaking into the Corio shop.

Mouat faced Geelong Magistrates Court on Friday, where he was released on bail.

He will next face court on October 28.
