Man 'naked and covered in blood' arrested before mum found 'murdered' at home as neighbours reveal hearing screams | The Sun

A MAN who was "naked and covered in blood" was arrested on suspicion of murder before cops found the body of a mum.

The discovery was made at a flat in Canute Gardens in Bermondsey, south east London, on Wednesday.

The victim, 46, who locals say was a mum-of-two, was sadly dead by the time police forced their way into the home.

Neighbours have now recalled the harrowing moment they heard screams coming from the ground-floor property.

Just before emergency services arrived one man living nearby said they heard a lot of noise.

The neighbour, who didn't want to be named, told The Sun: "Around 7.30pm there was loads of noise and arguing.

"And then the police started banging on the door.

"Of course I was scared, I didn't know what was going on – but then we found out and it's horrible."

A woman, who has lived in the area for 20 years, said the suspect, 53, was then brought out of the property naked and covered in blood.

She said: "The first thing we knew was Wednesday night we heard banging and someone shouting out 'open the door, open the door'.

"The police were standing there trying to knock the door down.

"Then the next thing we knew they'd got in there and the ambulance came.

"[The man who was arrested] had nothing on, he had blood all over him."

She said cops then put a silver foil blanket over the suspect before handcuffing him and taking him away.

She added: "It's tragic and when it's actually on your doorstep it makes you on edge because you don't know what happened in there.

"You just don't feel right.

"It's just a horrible thing."

Another neighbour, who lived a few doors down, said the victim was "lovely".

She said: "She helped me a few times. She was a really nice woman, she was lovely.

"I have arthritis and she asked me if I needed help with my shopping.

"It's a terrible thing what's happened to her. She was a nice woman and young too.

"It's horrible really, she had two kids."

MURDER PROBE

It is understood three police vans, four police cars and a swarm of officers rushed to the scene.

Forensics were still at the flat on Friday night.

Cops were called to the address shortly before 8.30pm after receiving reports of welfare concerns.

They found the man inside the property with injuries.

He was arrested on suspicion of murder before being treated by paramedics and taken to hospital.

The suspect was then discharged following treatment and remains in custody at a south London police station.

The man and the woman are believed to be known to each other.
