Met Office issue rain alert for huge parts of UK including Manchester

Manchester is among the parts of the UK hit with a yellow weather warning for rain tomorrow putting England’s win against Australia in the Ashes under threat.

The Met Office warns of disruption due to heavy rain.

Bus and train services are also predicted to be affected.

The Met Office said: “The rain will hit across northern England and parts of North Wales during Sunday, bringing fairly widespread 20-30 mm of rain with a few places, mainly over high ground, perhaps seeing 50-70 mm.”

Weather maps show the spread of rain across the UK as storms roll in.

The warning comes as Manchester plays host to the fourth Ashes test match between old cricket rivals Australia and England.

The Old Trafford game may be interrupted due to the approaching rain.

The forecast for the north west as a whole is: “Wet and gloomy for much of Saturday with outbreaks of rain throughout, heavy at times. A fresh breeze developing. Feeling cool under the persistent rain, though humidity building into the evening. Maximum temperature 17 °C.

“A wet morning with occasionally heavy rain. The rain may turn a little more showery during the afternoon but any drier spells will be brief. Maximum temperature 18 °C.”
