The Met Office has warned that Britons living in areas impacted by Storm Babet will continue to struggle as forecasters predict a rain deluge will pour over the UK for another 10 days.
Babet departed British shores last weekend after having pounded the country with vicious wind and rain, leaving vast tracts of land inundated with floodwaters and hundreds of homes damaged.
Charities have launched appeals to help homeowners salvage some of their lost properties as recovery efforts continue, but the Met Office’s latest forecast suggests they’re not out of the woods.
The agency has warned unsettled weather is likely to continue into the coming weekend as low pressure feeds weather fronts drifting across the country.
And BBC forecasts show that, unfortunately for Babet’s thousands of victims, persistent rainfall could last for another 10 days, into the first few days of November.

The latest BBC Weather forecasts show that rain showers in Brechin, where severe rainfall prompted by Babet forced officials to evacuate the entire town last week, will likely last into early November.
Forecasts for the town suggest rain will continue to some extent until Sunday, November 5, with similar conditions across the rest of the country prompting a warning from the Met Office.
Frank Saunders, the Met Office’s chief meteorologist, forecast “prolonged, heavy rainfall” for the remainder of the week.
He said: “High pressure close to Scandinavia acts to block the progress of weather fronts, causing them to stall at times, bringing prolonged, heavy rainfall for some, particularly to the West and south.”

“There will also be more rainfall feeding in from the east coast into eastern Scotland and northeast England, areas so badly impacted by Storm Babet.
“This rainfall won’t be as heavy as last week’s but has the potential to cause some further impacts, or perhaps to delay recovery and repair work.”
Flooding remains an issue across the UK, as the Environment Agency has hundreds of notices active for October 26 alone.
The agency has issued a combination of flood warnings and alerts, 108 in total, as Babet’s waters refuse to recede.
The vast majority are flood alerts, with 78 suggesting flooding is possible, and the remaining 30 are flood warnings, indicating floods are “expected”.
The Met Office also anticipates flooding for parts of Scotland, with a three-day yellow rain warning currently in place for the home nation’s east coast.
The agency has warned that an approaching weather system will tip out between 20 and 100mm (0.7 to four inches) of rain from 12pm today to the same time on Saturday, October 28.
Primary risks are to local travel across Central, Tayside & Fife and Grampian, with “difficult driving conditions and some road closures”, possible flooding to homes and businesses and damage to some buildings.
