  • Tyra and Chance Bogert, of Alaska, caught the bizarre moment on their doorbell camera while they were out of the house last week
  • In the video, the moose stands very still for a few moments before shaking its head like a dog and causing both antlers fall to the ground
  • The animal was just as stunned as the Bogerts as it ran away afterward
  • The antlers put together measure just short of 51 inches wide and the family plans to mount them on their home’s walls
  • It is not uncommon for moose to shed their antlers in December, as the animals typically do annually between now and March

An Alaskan moose shook off his antlers and ran off without them.

The bizarre moment was caught on the doorbell camera of Alaska residents Tyra and Chance Bogert. The couple were not expecting to get a notification from their doorbell camera while they were out and about, nor did they expect to see a moose shed its antlers.

In the doorbell video, which has been viewed nearly 19million times, the animal stands still for a long moment before it shakes its head like a dog, causing its antlers to fall off.

The animal seemed frightened by the moment, running off to the other side of the yard, leaving behind a piece of himself.

‘He scared the crap out of himself, that’s for sure, he took off running the other way,’ Tyra told Alaska’s New Source.

It is not uncommon for moose to shed their antlers, as they often do annually, but it is rare for both of them to fall off at the same time.

A moose outside of Tyra and Chance Bogert’s home shed both its antler’s last week. It stood still for a moment before shaking its head, causing both antlers to fall to the ground

The lightened load scared the animal so much it took off running, leaving his antlers behind

The antlers put together measure just short of 51 inches wide, according to the Bogert’s, who measured them in a separate video.

The antlers are so big, their three-month-old son Thrasher, can fit perfectly in the large part of it.

They plan to mount the antlers in their home, according to Newsweek.

As for the moose, it did regain its courage and returned to the property after the incredible moment to munch on some trees, according to Chance.

It is normal for moose to shed their antlers between December and March, according to the University of Missouri.

After a male moose sheds its antlers, new growths starts immediately, but it does not always show right away.

As they begin to grow, their antlers are covered in ‘velvet’ and by summer, it sheds off, leaving a more polished look. Throughout the fall, during breeding season, their antlers harden and are often used to fight other males. And as winter rolls around, it begins to loosen and eventually sheds, according to the University of Missouri.

The antlers measure roughly 51 inches from the widest part when put side-to-side
