Now Linda Hunter, whose daughter suffered significant leg injuries during the incident, has praised the officers for their response which she believes made a life-changing difference to her daughter, who is still receiving treatment nearly two years on.
‘I can’t thank the police enough for what they did to help,’ said Mrs Hunter, who brought officers treats for a tea break when she visited Spennymoor Police Station last month.
‘My daughter is doing well but it has been tough.’
Sergeant Pete Tate, of Durham Roads and Armed Policing Unit, warned motorists about the consequences of reckless driving.
Carter pleaded guilty to four counts of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and sentenced to 13-month in prison, suspended for two years and was disqualified from driving for 24 months

‘It was lovely to meet Linda and we are so pleased to hear her daughter is doing well,’ he said.
‘This collision could easily have had a very different outcome and importantly it could have been avoided in the first place.
‘I would urge anyone who does not feel safe as the passenger in a vehicle to speak out or not get in and make alternative arrangements to get home.
‘Our officers deal with the aftermath of collisions far too frequently. The action of one person can have life-changing consequences for others.’
Carter, of Station Town, Wingate, pleaded guilty to four counts of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and sentenced to 13-month in prison, suspended for two years and was disqualified from driving for 24 months and ordered to do an extended re-test.
