  • The car then slides into a ditch, before becoming permanently stuck

This is the moment an impatient driver’s attempt to overtake a bin lorry backfires, causing the car to end up stuck in a ditch.

Video shows how a dark grey Range Rover attempted to go around a Biffa bin lorry in Cranleigh, Surrey by ‘off roading’ on a grass verge.

Watched by an unimpressed bin man, the car then slides into a ditch, before becoming permanently stuck.

Waverley Borough Council in Surrey shared footage of the incident on Twitter in an attempt to warn drivers against dangerous overtaking attempts.

Social media users have apparently mocked the driver, replying to the clip with sassy remarks like ‘don’t mess with the bins’ and ‘you can’t park there, sir’.

Timestamps on the footage suggest the incident occurred in June this year during the morning commute.

Revealing the video online yesterday, the council tweeted: ‘Next time you think about overtaking one of our refuse collection vehicles, please take care.

‘As well as putting our @Biffa crews (and others) at risk, you may find yourself with a hefty garage bill. Please be patient.’

Twitter users joined in the conversation, seemingly criticising the driver’s questionable roadside judgement call.

‘Great advert for the off-road capabilities of Range Rovers eh,’ one wrote.

‘Of course it’s a Range Rover driver,’ echoed another.

Social media users apparently mocked the driver, replying to the post with sassy remarks like ‘don’t mess with the bins’ and ‘you can’t park there, sir’

‘Probably its first time going off road, you have to start somewhere,’ one added.

Another joked: ‘That really saved them some time!’

A few even complimented the refuse worker’s response, saying: ‘I love the way the bin man just casually watched with his hands on his hips!’

‘Haha, love that workers reaction,’ another wrote.

One user added: ‘Give that crewman a high-five and a pay raise!’

It is unclear if the driver was cited over the incident. MailOnline has approached both Waverely Borough Council and Surrey Police for comment.
