My partner was killed in Brixton crush & I want justice for victims – I knew something was wrong after Gaby's last text | The Sun

THE partner of one of two people killed in a crush at Brixton Academy is demanding justice as she revealed their final words.

Gaby Hutchinson, 23, was killed alongside Rebecca Ikumelo, 33, after thousands allegedly forced entry to an Asake concert.

A woman remains in hospital in a critical condition following the horror on December 15.

Now Gaby's partner Phoebie Turley, 25, is demanding someone be held accountable for the tragedy.

She said: "Things like this should never have happened.

"Every action has a reaction and this consequence has come out of people turning up with no tickets or turning up trying to kick through a door. For what? What purpose did that serve? Because now you have killed innocent people."

Gaby was working as a security dog handler with German shepherd Coco when 3,000 extra fans reportedly attempted to force entry.

Brixton Academy's licence has since been suspended amid fears the venue may never reopen.

Phoebie said: "They did not deserve this.

"Justice needs to be served and someone needs to be found accountable for what happened. Not just for Gaby, but just for Rebecca as well."

Recalling the tragic evening, Phoebie said she was aware something was wrong when Gaby stopped responding to messages.

Her partner of three years had said "I'll wake you up when I get home" before setting off in what became their final words.

Phoebie added: "I just had a gut feeling the whole time that something wasn't right.

"Normally, they would still reply here and there when they got five minutes, and I heard nothing.

"Then I got a phone call from a number that I didn't know. It was their manager who said 'You need to get to St Thomas's' hospital' and I was like 'What's happened?'

"Nobody was really aware of the situation at that point. He'd obviously been given very little information because he wasn't at the event. And then we all got to St Thomas's as fast as we could."

Tragically, Gaby passed away from their injuries four days later.

Phoebie and Gaby's family are now raising money to help pay for funeral costs.

Tributes flooded in for Gaby and mum-of-two Rebecca following their deaths.

Gaby's family said: "Gaby has brought so much love, laughter and inappropriate jokes into our lives and will forever be our baby, our daughter, our sister, our man and our joy.

"Getting 23 years of Gaby's life was a blessing and one we will never forget. Gaby will forever live on in our hearts.

"No-one should go to work and not come home.

"But Gaby protected those they loved fiercely and it was the same with Gaby's job."

Rebecca regularly posted on her Instagram and YouTube about her two sons, who both have autism.

Her family hailed her "care, kindness and love".

In a statement released through the Met Police, the family said: "Rebecca was a graduate of nursing. She was an adorable mother of two children who loved working with kids.
