Ohio mom jailed after apartment’s ‘bad smell’ leads cops to dead body of 1-year-old boy – The Sun

AN Ohio mom has been jailed after a "bad smell" from an apartment led cops to find the dead body of a one-year-old boy.

Wanisha Smith, 33, was arrested on Tuesday evening after firefighters found the dead child, WHIO reported.

When alerting the cops, the outlet said that the caller told dispatchers: "I think there’s someone over there that’s deceased."

The Dayton police said that, upon arrival, they also requested the Dayton Fire Department to attend the scene.

"Out of a concern for the safety and well-being of anyone inside, the Dayton Fire Department was requested to the scene and assisted with entering the apartment," Dayton Police Lt Jason Hall told the outlet.

"Firefighters located the remains of a small child who had clearly been deceased for some time. A call out was then made for detectives from both the Dayton Police Department Special Victims Unit and the Homicide Unit."

A Deyton police report showed that a child approximately one-year-old was involved, WHIO reported.

An autopsy will be done to determine how long the child had been dead and how they died.

Smith was arrested at around 6.30pm on Tuesday and was booked on a preliminary charge of murder, however prosecutor's have not approved the formal charges, according to WHIO.

The mother does have other children, cops told the outlet, but none of which are said to live with her.

The officers also confirmed that those children are safe.
