BITTER Penny Mordaunt made a sour swipe at her boss today for suggesting she was lazy during her doomed leadership bid.

The Trade Minister delivered an extraordinary rebuke to her ranking department chief Anne-Marie Trevelyan as she sat right next to her in the Commons.

Earlier this week Trade Secretary Ms Trevelyan, who backed Tom Tugendhat before switching to Liz Truss, accused Ms Mordaunt of often going AWOL and leaving others to "pick up the pieces".

The feuding colleagues were forced to grit their teeth and display a united front at Trade Questions in the Commons today.

But their public spat exploded as scorned Ms Mordaunt sniped: "I am sort of amazed to find myself here this morning given my reported work ethic. But I am here."

Ms Mordaunt appeared to twist the knife in further by seemingly shaming Ms Trevelyan for skipping a Trade Committee meeting this month.

She said: "For my own part, every single time the International Trade Committee or other body of this House has asked me to go before it, I have.

"I think that's the attitude of the ministerial team and we will continue to do that."
