Pensioner says mobile phone is 'haunted' as it torments her with texts

Pensioner says her mobile phone is ‘haunted’ because it torments her with strange alerts and thousands of text messages from unknown numbers

  • Diane Key, 80, was excited about her new phone until the spookiness began

A pensioner believes her phone is ‘haunted’ as it torments her with strange anonymous messages and malfunctioning lights.

Diane Key, 80, was delighted when she received her new Motorola G13 phone from Tesco in Sprowston, Norfolk.

But shortly after she took it home, some ‘spooky’ things began to happen.

Ms Key says she’s been constantly awoken by a bright light emerging from the phone at the same time each night.

And she has also received ‘thousands’ of strange texts each day from an unknown number.

She claims that the same texts repeat themselves on the hour, every hour, for 24 hours a day.

In a picture showing the phone, the message ‘No probs – I not forgotten you x’ appears to have been sent to Ms Key 11 times within two hours.

Ms Key from Horstead, Norfolk, said: ‘I’m using my old one now, I can’t be doing with it, it’s ridiculous!

‘It all started when I couldn’t transfer my 300-odd contacts automatically and had to do them manually, I knew it would be trouble.

‘Then all the texts started coming through every blooming minute, they go right the way through the ones I’ve received then they all start coming again.

She added: ‘The whole thing is really spooky, especially when the torch keeps coming on.

‘It’s like it’s haunted, things like that scare you at my age.’

The first time the light turned on in the middle of the night, Ms Key assumed it was a glitch. But when she was woken by a bright blight for the second night in a row she became spooked.

It then became a nightly occurence.

Ms Key has switched the phone off and put it in her bedside drawer, which has done the trick for now.

As she is out of her 14 days for a refund, she is not asking for compensation but wants Tesco to take the ghoulish phone back and free her from her contract.

While Ms Key has not been able to get to the bottom of what is causing the issues, it is more likely to be a technical glitch than an apparition according to Norwich medium Tita Martell.

Ms Martell said: ‘I haven’t come across a haunted phone before, so I’d say this is very rare.

‘It’s quite possible though, because it is all about the energy which has attached itself to it and what is connected to it.

‘Anything can become haunted in theory.’

MailOnline has contacted Tesco for a comment.
