Police in Northern Ireland on the hunt for convicted murderer who escaped prison while on day release | The Sun

POLICE in Northern Ireland are on the hunt to locate a convicted murderer who is currently “unlawfully at large.”

Thomas McCabe, 59, was sentenced to life for murder in 1990 and was on day release from prison when he escaped. 

He was due to return on August 23 but failed to do so. 

McCabe is described as around 5' 8" tall, of medium build with short grey coloured hair. 

He was last seen wearing a grey top, blue jeans and grey trainers. 

It is believed he has connections to Dublin, Newry and Newtownabbey.

Police have appealed to anyone who has seen Thomas McCabe, or who knows of his whereabouts, to contact them on 101.

They have also made calls to McCabe directly asking him to hand himself in.

Anyone with information can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 which is 100 per cent anonymous.

Detective Inspector Bell said: “McCabe, who was sentenced to life for murder in 1990, was on day release from prison.
