A Lamborghini has been snatched by police after the driver failed to fork out for the insurance of his vehicle.

The Roads and Transport arm of the Metropolitan Police seized the bright red supercar in Newham, east London. 

And they took to Twitter to remind motorists that every car, no matter how flashy,  needs to be insured when driven in public places.

The police will now store the vehicle, which appears to be a Lamborghini Aventador, in their holding pound. 

Some twitter users also pointed out that the supercar does not have a front numberplate, which is illegal.

Another joked that the officers should to ‘take the long route back’ when they drove the car to their pound.

Drive Insured, an organisation set up to reduce the number of uninsured cars, also received a shout-out for tipping off the police about the unlawful vehicle.  

The Aventador model, named after a fighting bull, is a mid-engine sports car which was first launched in 2011.  

But they come with a hefty price tag, with most varieties retailing for over £200,000.
