Rapper slammed by MP for lyrics that boast about murder of schoolboy

Drill rapper is slammed by MP for song lyrics ‘that boast about the gangland knife murder of a 15-year-old schoolboy’

  • Huddersfield artist Booter Bee’s latest song makes reference to murder of 15-year-old Khayri McLean
  • Labour MP Barry Sheerman has raised matter with West Yorkshire Police

A drill rapper has been slammed by Labour MP Barry Sheerman over his lyrics that ‘boast about the gangland knife murder’ of a schoolboy.

In his latest hit Huddersfield artist Booter Bee can be heard rapping the lyrics ‘should’ve seen how we butchered khayri’, which he has since edited out.

Khayri McLean was a 15-year-old school boy who was stabbed to death by two teenagers outside North Huddersfield Trust School in September 2022 in a ‘gang-related’ attack.

It was later disclosed at court that one of McLean’s attackers was a member of the ‘F Block’ or ‘Fartown’ gang, the same gang Booter Bee raps about the ‘criminal exploits’ of.

The YouTube video, which has now been viewed almost 400,000 times, has been flagged by Huddersfield MP Barry Sheerman to the West Yorkshire Police and Home Secretary Suella Braverman.

According to the lyrics website Genius, the offending verse in his song Dr Miami goes: ‘When the mandem chinged up jj (woah)/ Should’ve seen how we butchered khayri (ooo) How I get round, shot up the party (bap)/ Can’t chill in the crowd and think that your safe, jump out and bullet the barbie’s (smoke dem).’

On YouTube Khayri’s name has now been bleeped out of the music video.

Mr Sheerman reported he was absolutely disgusted by the content of the Booter Bee song.

‘I am horrified. I shall refer it to the Chief Constable (of West Yorkshire Police) and mention it in the House of Commons.

‘I am so angry people like this can stir up hate.’

Booter Bee, who boasts a significant social media following with 28,000 YouTube subscribers, 57,000 Instagram followers and 36,000 TikTok followers, conceals his face in his videos.

The video on YouTube now comes with a disclaimer that reads: ‘This video and lyrical content is for entertainment purposes only’

His latest video contains a disclaimer which states: ‘This video and lyrical content is for entertainment purposes only.

‘All lyrics are not to be taken literal and no harm or discomfort is intended on the viewer.’

Last year Huddersfield charity Conscious Youth also raised concerns about how his lyrics promote violence.

Co-founder Serena Johnson said: ‘YouTube needs to be employing people who understand the gang culture and jargon because it needs to be censored.

‘Videos are telling you what’s going to happen and about previous crimes.

‘They even mention names. They are also trying to coach girls into setting up other people.’

West Yorkshire Police has been asked to comment.
