Red alert! Redheads from around the world gather to celebrate their fiery locks

  • Hundreds gathered in Tilburg, The Netherlands, to celebrate redheads
  • Festivalgoers flew in from across the world to celebrate ginger hair
  • The festival holds the world record for having the most natural redheads in one spot

Hundreds of redheads flew from across the world to Dutch city of Tilburg for the annual Redhead Days Festival, which took place over the weekend.

Gingers came from across the world, from countries including the UK, Israel, Italy, New Zealand and Germany, for the three-day long event that is supposed to be all about ‘connection, pride and recognition.’

While this year’s festival attracted huge crowds, it was nowhere near as big as its world record-setting event in 2013, which brought 1,672 natural redheads together in one spot.

Oddly enough, the festival was founded by blond painter Bart Rouwenhorst in 2005.

The painter, who was drawn to the aesthetic qualities of gingers, asked for 15 ginger models to paint, only receive 150 responses.

While everyone was photographed, many voiced their disappointment as not being selected as a model.

Rouwenhorst then decided to make an event out of it in celebration of red hair.

The first ever meeting brought in 150 natural redheads.
