Restaurant slams shameless diners who skipped £490 bill for steak & lobster lunch then 'drove off as fast as you could' | The Sun

A RESTAURANT has slammed diners who are accused of leaving without paying for a hefty £489 lunch and driving off "as fast as they could".

Stubbs Restaurant in Ashford, Kent, welcomed the party of seven people for Sunday lunch at just before 12.30pm but ended up severely out of pocket.

According to the extensive bill, it seems the group had a taste for the finer things in life and went to town.

Starters included three lobster, crab and shrimp cocktails which came in at £59.95 and two servings of crispy brie priced at £17.90, as well as a more moderately priced calamares at £9.95 and chicken liver parfait at £8.95.

There were also two orders of a dozen oysters costing £16 each.

For the mains, a large lobster thermidor came in at a whopping £72 while an entrecote steak with a green peppercorn sauce cost £31.50.

Another said: “The impact this has on not just the owners but staff, this isn’t a big faceless chain, which is bad enough these are real people’s livelihoods.”

While a third added: “This makes me angry as all the staff at Stubbs Restaurant are amazing and this is not acceptable.”

The Sun Online has contacted the restaurant and Kent Police for comment.

It comes after a pub was hit twice within a few months earlier this year with diners walking out without paying.

The manager at the Fisherman's Arms in Newlyn, Cornwall, took to social media in September in the hope of tracking down two women who left without paying.

The pub, which is part-owned by England rugby star Jack Nowell, hit the headlines earlier this year after a family ran out without paying on Father’s Day.

Elsewhere, a couple who ran out of a restaurant without paying for their meal said they had a good reason to after they were shamed for dashing online.
