Russia: Explosions heard by citizens in Belgorod

Russian air defence systems have scrambled to protect the city of Belgorod 25 miles north of the Ukrainian border as locals reported more than 30 explosions in the early hours of Tuesday. The attack is the latest in a series of unclaimed explosions in Russian territory. Regional Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov reported via Telegram that explosions had been heard across the city and that there was “damage to power lines”.

Explosions heard in Russian city near Ukraine border

Locals of the Russian city of Belgorod have claimed more than 30 explosions could be heard across the region overnight and into Tuesday.

The city of Belgorod is northeast of the Ukrainian city of Kharkiv, which was liberated by the local forces in September last year.

Concerning the explosions overnight, regional governor Vyacheslav Gladko wrote on Telegram: “Our air defence system worked over Belgorod and the Belgorod region. Operational services clarify the consequences on the ground. According to preliminary data, it is known that there were no damages and victims. If they do, I’ll be sure to let you know.

“As a result of the shelling of the outskirts of the city of Shebekino, there were no casualties. There are damage to power lines. Power engineers have already begun switching subscribers to backup lines. The house bypass of the territory continues.”
