Two Russian aircraft released a missile close to a RAF jet over the Black Sea, according to UK Defence Secretary Ben Wallace.

The unarmed British aircraft was patrolling in international airspace at the time.

Mr Wallace told parliament that Britain suspended patrols over the Black Sea following the "potentially dangerous" incident.

A message was also Russian Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu to express concerns.

Mr Wallace told MPs in Commons that an unarmed "RAF RC-135 Rivet Joint" spy plane was flying in "international airspace over the Black Sea" when two Russian Su-27s "released a missile in the vicinity of the Rivet Joint beyond visual range.

The incident occurred on September 29, he said.
