A Russian musician famous for a song used in anti-war protests in Russia died after falling through ice while crossing a river.
Dmitry Svirgunov, also known as Dima Nova, fell through ice while trying to cross the Volga River with his brother and three friends, the independent Russian outlet Meduza reported.

Svirgunov is one of the artists behind a popular synth-pop group called Cream Soda, which confirmed his death.
The 35-year-old musician, his 25-year-old brother Roman, and a 28-year-old friend Georgy Kiselev drown under the ice. A fourth, unnamed, died in an ambulance.
A fifth was reportedly rescued.
Meduza reported that the incident occurred in the village of Dievo-Gorodishche, in Russia’s Yaroslavl region.
The group’s music was used by a comedian to make fun of Russian President Vladimir Putin’s billion-dollar mansion, dubbed “Putin’s Palace”.
Cream Soda, then, wrote a song called Aqua Disco about a room in the palace described as an “aquatic disco”, which became an anthem of anti-Putin protests.
Svirgunov’s death comes as a string of critics of Putin’s 2022 full-scale invasion of Ukraine have been found dead.
Nearly two dozen Russian business leaders have died since the invasion began, many under mysterious circumstances.
