THREE people including a suspected gunman have died after a shooting at a Safeway supermarket in Oregon.

A shooter wielding an AR-15 style assault rifle opened fire in the Forum Shopping Center parking lot before heading inside the store.

Swarms of police, SWAT teams, and first responders raced to the scene in Bend as cops urged locals to shelter in place.

Cops revealed that three people were shot and killed, including the gunman, KTVZ reports.

Gunshots were fired in the parking lot before one victim was found dead near the front of the Safeway store.

Another was found near the produce area at the back of the supermarket.

One shopper was with his four kids when the gun violence unfolded.

Josh Caba told KTVZ that his wife wasn't feeling well so she stayed in the car while he and their children went inside the Safeway store.

He said he heard around six to seven shots before telling his kids to run.

He said: "People were screaming… it was a horrifying experience."

Witnesses told the outlet that they saw a man who was holding two duffel bags head into the supermarket.

A worker at the Safeway store told Fox3Now that a person entered into the store armed and immediately began firing.

And, one person shared pictures of the shattered glass doors on social media.

They said: "Shootout at the Bend Big Lots and Safeway. I literally head return fire. WTF??!"

Lisa Goodman, the spokesperson for St Charles, said the hospital had been put on lockdown.

The City of Bend Police Department warned people to avoid the area.
