A “saucy situation” unfolded after a semitruck crashed and spilled a pasta ingredient it was carrying in Tennessee, officials said.

Alfredo sauce coated part of Interstate 55, blocking northbound traffic as crews worked to clean up the mess on Tuesday, Aug. 30, according to Nichole Lawrence, a Tennessee Department of Transportation spokesperson.

On Twitter, Lawrence shared a photo showing a white substance covering the pavement. The sauce spilled near a semitruck that was missing its cabin and part of its trailer, according to video posted from Kate Bieri of WHBQ.

The Memphis Police Department was called to the crash at about 4:30 p.m. on the interstate near McLemore Avenue. Officers reported that a tractor-trailer was carrying alfredo sauce when it ran into a wall along the highway.

One person was taken to a hospital in “non-critical condition,” and lanes were clear before 9:45 p.m., police told McClatchy News in an emailed statement.

Photos and video from the crash site left some social media users grossed out while others hoped the cheesy sauce wouldn’t go to waste.

“I just want to know how bad it smelled after baking in the sun,” one person commented on Facebook.

“5000 gallons of pasta might help,” another person wrote on Twitter.

There were also those who drew comparisons to another recent crash. On Aug. 29, thousands of tomatoes spilled onto Interstate 80 in California, causing a shutdown, McClatchy News reported.
