Taylor Swift paid tribute after her Eras Tour encountered tragedy last week during the extreme heat in Brazil as 23-year-old fan Ana Clara Benevides fainted in the front row.

She was reportedly given CPR at the scene and was transported to hospital where she suffered a second cardiac arrest and sadly died.

While the 33-year-old singer shared a handwritten note with fans on social media as soon as she heard the news, the Grammy winner took it one step further during her show on Sunday with a special tribute.

Fans will know in Taylor’s set list she has time set aside in each show for surprise songs which change for each performance.

On Sunday, the singer got teary-eyed during her second surprise song, Bigger Than the Whole Sky, which is a song about grief.

The emotionally-charged lyrics include: “Goodbye, goodbye, goodbye / You were bigger than the whole sky / You were more than just a short time.

“I’m never gonna meet / What could’ve been, would’ve been / What should’ve been you / What could’ve been, would’ve been you.”

The Hollywood star previously wrote on Instagram as soon as she heard of Ana’s passing: “I can’t believe I’m writing these words, but it is with her shattered heart that I say we lost a fan earlier tonight before my show. I can’t even tell you how devastated I am by this,’ she posted.

“I’m not going to be able to speak about this from the stage because I feel overwhelmed by grief when I even try to talk about it.

”I want to say now I feel this loss deeply, and my broken heart goes out to her family and friends. This is the last thing I ever thought would happen when we decided to bring the show to Brazil.”

Taylor also postponed her Saturday night show due to the sweltering temperatures and shared her appreciation for those who braved the heat and rain to join her on Friday.

Other footage from the concert showed the singer demanding water from the stadium staff to give to fans amid Brazil’s unprecedented heatwave, bringing the gig to a halt briefly as she tossed bottles of water into the crowd.

Another clip from the front rows sparked concern across social media as the singer belted out a note with a smile on her face before turning around with a desperate look on her face as she struggled to breathe in the heat.
