Shakira doubles down on dig at 'cheating' ex Gerard Pique in new song as she claims 'when the glove fits, it fits' | The Sun

POP star Shakira has opened up on her recent hit which appears to take a sly dig at her "cheating" ex Gerard Pique.

The Colombian-born singer, 45, released her single "Te Felicito" ("I Congratulate You") in April.

In it, Shakira sings in Spanish: "To make you whole/ I broke myself in pieces/ I was warned, but I didn't take heed/ Don't tell me you're sorry/ I know you well and I know you're lying."

Giving an interview to the magazine Elle, the "Hips Don't Lie" singer was asked about the significance of the line "I broke myself in pieces".

The interviewer asked: "Is that the feeling that you had that you kind of had to give a part of yourself during that relationship, which perhaps was hard to get back?"

Shakira responded coyly: "I can only say that either consciously or subconsciously, everything I feel, everything I go through is reflected in the lyrics I write, in the videos I make."

She added: "When the glove fits, it fits. Like I said before, my music is that channel."

In her latest single, Shakira appears to make another reference to her recent emotional turmoils.

She was pictured filming the music video for her song "Monotonia" (Monotony) in Manresa near Barcelona earlier this month.

Shakira holds a fake heart and has a 'hole' in her chest in the snaps, taken days after her ex-boyfriend Gerard Pique appeared in public with his new girlfriend for the first time.

Pique and Shakira split in June after the Barcelona and Spain defender, 35, allegedly cheated on her.

Spanish publication El Periodico claimed that Pique cheated with a woman in her 20s who works as an "event hostess".

They had been together for more than 11 years and have two kids together.

The couple met in 2010 on the set of Shakira's official World Cup song music video "Waka Waka".

Reports in Spain claimed that Pique cheated on Shakira and had been "staying alone in his own apartment for weeks" following Shakira's discovery of his alleged infidelity.

El Periodico claimed the centre-back had been living a "party lifestyle" since the split.

Pique is yet to address the infidelity rumours.

He was revealed to be dating student Clara Chia Marti, 23, last month.

In the same Elle interview, Shakira claimed she had made "sacrifices" for her children and partner at the expense of her career, which Pique had been unable to return.

She said that when her oldest child Milan started school in late 2014, she had decided to stop the "nomadic existence" and "constant travel" that came with being a pop star.

"My career had to be put in second gear," she said.

Referring to Pique, she said: "One of the two of us had to make a sacrifice, right? Either he would stop his contract with Barcelona and move to the US with me, where my career is, or I would have to do that instead."

She said her decision to move to Spain full time "was a sacrifice of love".

Separately, Shakira is facing legal woes as a judge has ordered the singer to stand trial over her £13 million alleged tax fraud.

She could face a prison sentence of more than eight years after she rejected a plea deal in July on accusations of tax evasion.
