- A social worker arrived at the property to collect her eldest daughter but was confronted by McCaslin with a gun
- She set off fireworks from the garage in a desperate bid to attract authorities’ attention
A mother locked a social worker in her garage before and threatened her with a gun before shooting dead her three children with a semi-automatic handgun.
Brandy McCaslin, 39, had been given unsupervised visitation right to two of her children just a month before she killed them at her home in Verdigris, Oklahoma.
The mother-of-three had attempted suicide in January after losing her grandfather, with the father of her youngest child saying her mental state worsened when her grandmother died a month later.
McCaslin killed Billy Jacobson, 10 months, her 6-year-old son Bryce and 11-year-old daughter Noe in the tragedy on Thursday night.
A social worker arrived at the property to collect Noe at 2pm, to take her back to her father, but was locked in the garage by McCaslin who threatened her with a gun and took her keys and phone.

She had her son in the car, and started setting off fireworks through the garage window in a bid alert law enforcement to the tragedy, according to Billy’s father, Billy Jacobson Sr.
Authorities confirmed that the lone officer went to investigate and called for back-up when they found McCaslin barricaded inside the home, armed with a weapon.
When officers gained access to the house hours later, they found McCaslin and her three children dead.
Billy Sr told DailyMail.com that McCaslin had asked for an extra hour with their son, and he believes she ‘planned it in advance’.
He ‘I knew she had problems, and I was so scared something could happen like this. She planned this ahead of time.
‘She asked me a week and a half ago, if she could have an extra hour with Billy that day. She was a very controlling person and that combined with her losing her grandparents is what caused this.
‘her not having control over where her kids went, it would have been a factor. She was trying to push for them to move back in with her.
‘Her grandparents would baby her through her whole life, they brought her up, gave her everything she wanted and if she got in trouble they covered for her. All it did was create a monster.

‘Myself and Noe’s dad were fighting for what was safe for the kids. Brandy had a lot of mental issues and threatened to run off with Billy and never let me see him again.
‘The courts have failed us dramatically. I had emergency custody of Billy, and Noe’s dad did the same, but within a month they gave her supervised visitation back when she hadn’t done anything’.
A fundraiser has received $215 of a $10,000 goal to pay for funeral costs for Billy and Bryce as well as any other assistance the family needs.
McCaslin reportedly told the court that she had completed her counseling following her attempt on her life, with lawyers for the fathers of Billy and Noe fighting to stop her from having unsupervised visits.
The mother-of-three had also been released from DHS supervision while caring for Bryce, in the weeks running up to the murders.
She was allowed unsupervised access to the children over a month before the killings, with Billy Sr blaming the system for the deaths of the children.
Billy Sr said: ‘Her guns, a shotgun, a couple of hunting rifles, and a 40 caliber semi-automatic handgun, weer taken away from her after the first suicide attempt.
‘But I think her friend gave them back to her when she was released from supervision for Bryce, and this is what happened.
‘She was a mother and the courts instantly gave her much more consideration. I believe if it had been a man on the other side of the fence, that I wouldn’t have seen my kids ever again.

‘Because she was a mother, they just gave her the kids back, whether it was safe or not. No checks were done to make sure they were safe.
‘She did it to take them away from me and their fathers. That’s why she did it. The courts have failed us dramatically, it has been a total failure.
‘We don’t want this to happen to anyone else. We are praying for changes to the system to prevent it from ever happening to another family.’
Billy Sr paid tribute to all three children, calling Billy the ‘sweetest happiest baby’, who woke up ‘every morning with a huge smile waiting to play – adding that he was ‘so loved’ by his two sisters, Alex and Zoe.
He also cared for Bryce, who was autistic and had told the six-year-old that he would ‘always take care of him’ when he visited last week.
The father-of-three said: ‘I told him I can’t be your daddy, but I’ll always be your Billy and always take care of you. I just didn’t think that I would have to take care of him by organizing his funeral.
‘Bryce was the sweetest, happiest little boy, he always had a smile and had a heart of gold – soaked up attention from anyone.

‘Noe was a goofy, funny, sweet cute little kid. She was so timid but she had just started vaulting horses recently, I was so proud of her. She was strong and fearless.’

An Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation spokesman said: ‘On the afternoon of July 20, 2023, officers with the Verdigris Police Department noticed fireworks erupting outside a home near East Dogwood Court and Cypress Street.
‘Officers went to investigate and discovered an armed and barricaded woman inside the residence.
‘Negotiations quickly began as they worked to make contact with 39-year-old Brandy McCaslin. A stand-off ensued for the next three hours.
‘After no response, officers made entry into the home where they found McCaslin, along with her three children, dead inside.
‘The children included a ten-month-old, as well as a six and eleven-year-old. It was determined that McCaslin shot all three kids and then turned the weapon on herself.
‘The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation was requested to assist with this case. OSBI agents will continue to work alongside the Verdigris Police Department, as this investigation continues.’
