Strictly’s Aljaz Skorjanec on how he keeps romance alive with Janette Manrara

Janette Manrara shares update a week after giving birth

Strictly Come Dancing favourites Janette Manrara and Aljaž Škorjanec welcomed their baby daughter Lyra to the world last week.

Ahead of the big day, the BBC stars sat down to record the latest episode of their podcast Twist and Shout, where they spoke about their excitement for the birth of their first child.

During the episode, which was entitled Are we ready?, the pair discussed what was important in order to maintain a healthy relationship.

The professional dancers, who married in 2017, describe themselves as “best friends” – and fans loved watching them together on Strictly when they were on the show between 2013 and 2021.

Speaking to Janette, who now hosts Strictly’s spin-off series It Takes Two, Aljaž shared the secret of how their marriage has lasted despite their busy schedules.

“We have always been really good at going on dates,” Aljaž explained, as Janette reminded him that they had now been together for 12 years.

“I feel like we’ve always been good,” he continued. “Doesn’t matter how fast life is or will be, we always have found time for one another.

“And I really think that’s probably one of the biggest reasons why this works.”

“I feel like we are really, really amazing best friends as well,” Janette added.

“We can laugh together, we can cry together – we just watched a film and we were both in tears!”

As the podcast went on, the couple took it in turns to read out pieces of advice given by their listeners in preparation for when the baby would arrive.

Aljaž read out one suggestion that said: “Never keep score of who does what. Just try to do the most you can do for each other.”

Reflecting on the statement, he agreed: “I think that’s great. I feel like you just do your best because obviously we’re doing it for our family but also we’re doing it for the little one.”

“There is no score,” Janette chimed in as Aljaž added: “There is no scoreboard.”

“We’re in it together, a win is a win, a loose is a loose,” Janette said decidedly.

The Twist and Shout with Aljaz and Janette podcast is available to stream now.
