Our love for Michelle Obama reigns on. 

The unveiling of the former First Lady’s official portrait in February at the Smithsonian’s National Portrait Gallery has inspired little Black girls and women everywhere. They’re awestruck and beaming with pride at how Baltimore-based artist Amy Sherald captured Mrs. Obama’s natural warmth and grace. Case in point: two-year-old Parker Curry looking up at Obama’s portrait completely mesmerized.

And now, we can add another to the list of inspired Black girls. On Instagram, a proud mother (@mamarazzi_t) shared a photo of daughter recreating Mrs. Obama’s regal portrait in honor of Juneteenth.

During the portrait unveiling earlier this year, Mrs. Obama reflected on representation and what she hoped her portrait would mean for little Black girls.

“I’m also thinking about all of the young people, particularly girls and girls of color, who, in years ahead, will come to this place and they will look up and they will see an image of someone who looks like them hanging on the wall of this great American institution,” she said.

If these kids’ photo recreations are any indication of that positive influence, consider Mrs. Obama’s goal accomplished.
